More Global Warming

Yeah, I know. I can't let it go. It's really irritating to me, however, that in spite of conflicting evidence, opinion and interpretation, the media acts as if human affected global warming has been proven in the same manner as gravity. It has not.

Recently, a Yahoo News story bemoaned soaring temperatures in Nevada. This despite the fact that climate data from NOAA shows temperatures warmer in the 1940s. In the story, "normal temperatures" and "average temperatures" are used interchangeably. There is no such thing as a normal temperature. There are only temperature averages.

Today, many studies forget basic scientific method. It's not just climate study. The tendency runs from science to sociology. Before you can draw conclusions you must first rule out any other factors that can influence your results. But with global warming the starting point for many of these studies it's already a forgone conclusion. That's not science.

And finally, remember the 2006 hurricane season? The worst ever! No, that was just the predictions from "experts". Well, 2007 really will be the worst. And they mean it this time. No wait, never mind. The forecast is being downgraded again. I can hardly wait for next year's predictions.
