It Is As Bad As You Think

Have you ever witnessed your worst fears confirmed? That's what this video from Jay Leno on the Tonight Show did for me. He asks random people at Universal Studios basic questions related to the 4th Of July. Their answers range from wildly wrong to befuddled "I don't know"s.

Now, I realize they don't show the people who actually answer the questions correctly and I hope there were many more than the stumped simpletons included here. While it is amusing to watch people be so comically wrong, it's also a little disturbing. Especially the lady in pink (around the 4 minute mark) who is a college instructor who thinks we got our independence in 1922. Somehow, I'm not surprised to see a member of the education establishment floundering in futility for facts.

Thankfully, an elderly gentlemen at the end is able to clear up all the confusion in about 15 seconds. Do we have a problem with our education system or are people just ignorant because of apathy? I think it's probably a lot of both.

Very scary and sad - obviously if there even is a class of American History in schools today they aren't teaching it - and as you've said, have changed it. This "could" be comical, but it's very, very sad!! 1922 - and she guessed about liberation and could not tell from whom.
I HATE things like in a 2 minute stream on some news station Fri. some commentator (big authority, of course - writes his imagination, of course, which is interpreted by readers as reality) demolished the works of George Washington and a whole lot of other great men alongside him and rightafter him. Only another way to bring down our country - people don't bother to research things for themselves, and so will believe all this foolishness, breaking further the foundation of America. Infuriates me hearing people destroy those who worked so hard with so little - not all the tech today - to give us this freedom - which is at great risk.

I would love to see our "big authorities" today have to debate George Washington. I suspect their expertise would crumble like an old cookie in the face of true intellect governed by conviction and honor.

The saying is, "people get the leaders they deserve". I'm afraid we're seeing that truth being demonstrated today.

A simple statement or two from him and they'd be backed into the proverbial corner, put in their place.

Sad thing is about leaders deserved - many, probably most don't really want these leaders - they just listen to the "professors" comments on every tidbit of hinted news on liberal stations and people never bother to think beyond that or research the truth for themselves, and then, there are those of us who don't want a life deserving of these leaders.
