Slimy Justifies Being Slimy

Even 10 years after he left office, Bill Clinton still makes you feel like you need a shower after he speaks. He justifies Robert Byrd's association with the KKK by saying he was "just trying to get elected". That gives you some insight, not only into Bill Clinton's outlook but a lot of politicians. It doesn't matter how loathsome a person or organization is, if they can help you get elected, they're OK.

Remember, it was Bill Clinton who two years ago said about Barack Obama, "A few years ago this guy would have been getting us coffee." Was Robert Byrd just trying to get elected? In 1944 he wrote a letter to Mississippi Senator and proud racist Theodore Bilbo (and fellow Democrat):

I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side ... Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Gory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.

Does that sound like someone who's just trying to get elected? Or maybe someone who embraces the bigoted ideals of the KKK? I for one am tired of Democrats getting away with covering up their extremely racist past and acting as if they have always been for equality. The truth of history contradicts the story propagated by the media.

Every now and then, in the words of Bill Clinton or Harry Reid, I think we see the ugly undercurrent of racism that still permeates many of their minds. Not all by any means, but many. Yet when their words are brought out into the light of day you can count on the media to explain away or even justify their nasty language.

yep, R. Byrd was just trying to get elected. I've watched him from his early political days - when he, a New Yorker, found one little state, WV, who would believe his vain promises and vote for him making his path to the White House - pretty pathetic when he had to do something so subversive, and I thought the same things when he wan the election there - I was there!
