If you've taken in any news at all in the last 48 hours, you've been deluged by coverage of the AIG bonus story. Every politician who is raging about the bonuses is trying to grab a little bit of the publicity pie. In the overall picture, $165 million is a drop in the bucket. To put in in perspective, the funds made available to financial institutions was
4,242 times that much. But now, the politicians come out of the woodwork because they smell a sound byte on the evening news.
In reality, everyone of those people who voted to give money to executives who had run their businesses so poorly they were on the brink of collapse should be ashamed. What did they expect to happen? It's like giving $10 to a crackhead and then being outraged when he buys drugs. Spare me your indignation. I don't really care what AIG did, but you'll know what I think of your actions next time your up for re-election.
